One of the most common questions I get from expecting parents is:
“When should I book my newborn session?”
The answer is simple: as soon as you know your due date and or after you hit your 2nd trimester!
I know it can feel strange to book a photography session before your baby is even here, but newborn photographers don’t book based on your baby’s birthday, we reserve your due date. Because babies have a mind of their own and rarely arrive exactly on schedule, reserving your spot during pregnancy ensures that I have room on my calendar when your little one makes their grand entrance.
The Sweet Spot for Booking
I recommend reserving your newborn session sometime during your second trimester or early third trimester. Many families book shortly after their anatomy scan, while others reserve as soon as they know they want newborn photos.
The earlier you book, the better!
I only take on a limited number of newborns each month so that I can provide every family with the experience and attention they deserve. Once my monthly spots are filled, I am often unable to accommodate additional newborn sessions.
But What If I Don’t Know When Baby Will Arrive?
That’s completely normal!
When you reserve your session, I place your due date on my calendar. Once baby arrives, all you have to do is send me a message, and we’ll schedule your actual session date. Newborn sessions are typically photographed within the first 12-15 days after birth, when babies are still extra sleepy and curly.
Why Reserve Early?
Booking ahead means:
• Your due date is guaranteed on my calendar
• No last-minute stress after baby arrives
• Plenty of time to plan your session
• Access to my studio props, wraps, and styling assistance
• Peace of mind knowing these once in a lifetime memories are covered
• Don’t Wait Until Baby Arrives
Every year I receive messages from parents whose babies are already here asking if I have availability. While I do my best to squeeze families in when possible, I can’t always guarantee a spot.
Those tiny newborn details, the flaky skin, little eyelashes, sleepy stretches, and curled-up poses change so quickly. Reserving your session before your baby arrives ensures you won’t miss the opportunity to capture them.
If you’re expecting and thinking about newborn photos, now is the perfect time to reserve your due date. Your future self will be so thankful you did.
I can’t wait to help you preserve these sweet first memories of your newest little love.
XOXO,
Miss Sarah
